1 /5 Aaron Burkhart: I’ve been a loyal AAA Washington member for over a decade and have never once called for a tow — until now. And after this experience, it will also be my last.
Following their “recommended” online submission for my very first tow request, I had to make four follow-up calls just to speak to a human. I was told a truck would arrive within 60–90 minutes. Three hours later, still nothing — no tow, no calls, no updates. When I called again for the fifth time, I was told the truck they arranged had cancelled. No one at AAA bothered to tell me.
They promised to find another truck. Surprise: that never happened. I gave up, called the first tow company I found on Google, and they had me picked up in 30 minutes. Thankfully, the mechanic stayed late to take my vehicle — something AAA clearly could not arrange in hours.
AAA says they’ll reimburse me up to a certain amount, but if their reimbursement process is anything like their actual job of helping stranded drivers, I wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole.
The only reason I got off the road was because I took matters into my own hands. My 10-year-old daughter and I sat broken down on the pavement for three hours, waiting for a service I paid for over 10 years, only to fix the problem myself.
AAA Washington will never see another dime from me. I will actively steer friends, family, and strangers toward literally anyone else. You are better off with a random Google search than the so-called “roadside assistance” they claim to provide.
