They have no trouble canceling, even when you have every single policy in your life, including your business with them. They don’t apologize for not trying to keep your business. They don’t explain why you have a personal agent that doesn’t touch in when they cancel your car insurance or your umbrella insurance. They send a stale notice. They don’t care about keeping your business whatsoever or if you are safe on the road. I couldn’t imagine if I had a big claim how that would’ve been. Personal insurance isn’t what it used to be when my mom had it. I was with Geico for decades and had zero trouble. I did absolutely nothing that caused them to drop my car insurance. They said they sent me some paperwork that I never received about wanting an updated odometer reading. And because I didn’t have car insurance, a few months later, they dropped my umbrella insurance. Didn’t even call to try to convince me to stay with them. I found out through the mail. I was talked into signing with them and thought it would be safer so that I would know all of my policies, business, home, and family were safe, but I wasn’t safe. I went without car Insurance for months without realizing it. You will not receive personal care here for anything goes wrong with your policy. You are just a number once you are convinced to sign up for everything they offer.
I read below someone raving about the annual review with them about their policies – I have been with her for many years and apparently I was skipped. To my knowledge, I have never caused any problems nor have I used any of my policies. They just collected money from me, which obviously wasn’t that important to them because they allowed two of my policies to drop.
The kicker is I just don’t have time to deal with this. It’s a lot of work to shop around and get new business, life, auto, home, umbrella, etc. etc. etc. as never in a million years would I expect this to be added back to my to do.
Maybe they were good at one time, but possibly they are too busy and have too many people to take care of for any sort of personalized service to make sure that your policies stay in good standing.
If a client called my insurance agency I managed and said oh my goodness I realized my policies have been canceled. What do I do? I would, instead of just saying, well you should call a different company because it will take us forever to get it turned on (neglecting to tell you that if you do leave us, you won’t have umbrella insurance - the same umbrella insurance you did not think you needed and we convinced you to get). I would have instead said, OK go with that other company to get your auto insurance turned on right now and then let’s work together on getting you back with us next month. That way, you can keep everything in the same place and everything will be great. And we will keep your business. But no.
I have no trouble being a nice person with good customer service but when I feel like I don’t matter to someone I give money to, I get pretty upset. Not one single apology when it was definitely justified. Just constantly made every excuse to blame me. It was as if I stopped paying, which I never did. My bills were always paid. For a service I never used. Baffled.
If you are a busy person lacking a personal assistant to check on these things, who’s looking for an agent/office that looks out for you, I suggest you find an agent elsewhere.
Note - I just remembered I was in a situation a few years ago and I needed a quick answer and I called the number I was given for my agent and she got upset with me saying that kind of stuff needed to be with the main office. I thought I had an agent and I didn’t realize I had to go through an office - it felt off putting. That should’ve been a sign. My mom had an agent, and they had a much different relationship. Maybe that was just a special agent and it is me that is misunderstanding the industry. Who knows.
