1 /5 Ygnacio Waring-Enriquez: An old builder recommended this establishment to my wife and I when he learned that we wanted to start our very own general contracting business. I wish that he hadnt.
Upon entering the establishment in the late Spring - at a scheduled time of course - we were led into the cramped office by the new owner, Derrin Doty Sr.
He informed us that his son would be handling the insurance and bonding of our business venture. Only that, his son was still out at lunch and had not returned - this turned out to be not just a one time occurrence but a habitual pattern that plauged our entire summer.
His son entered and his father informed him, in front of us, that we were excited to start our own business. Upon reflection I have realized that his smile was not genuine but instead sinister. Had he had less control over himself, the salivation would have poured from his mouth. We left that day with another appointment to finalize the bond and would soon return to pick up the paperwork. Alas, when it looks to good to be true. In my experience, it usually is.
We picked up the documents our next visit and took them to L&I only to find out that we did not have the right bonding. Apparently, we only had insurance enough to cover one handyman - it seems that people overlook the fact that my wife performs the same tasks that I do when on the job.
So now we had to return to PJI to remedy this small hiccup. Amicable was I and cordial was my wife, forgiving was the both of us but apparently some peoples children take kindness for weakness. He informed us that we could not up the bond to a general contracting bond just yet but that it would take some time. And that not to worry about the rates doubling because the bonding agency he was going through would honor that we had applied for this bond before July 1st. So we were still grandfathered into last years rates and that. We were not displeased but actually excited and left expecting a lagtime knowing DJ would take care of us and our family. We do not like to rush these things, especially things we do not fully understand.
Days went by, followed by weeks and there was not follow up from the Insurance agency. My wife attempted in several occasions to make contact but messages left with the secretary had gone unanswered.
Finally, I called the office, was put on a brief hold and - to my wifes dismay - was talking with DJ in no time. He informed me that there was nothing to worry about, keep in mind that we had already paid his office some $800. Still I held my tongue and listened to his explanation that there was a hold up with the agency he was going through and that the man he was working with had been let go while working with DJ on our documents. But that there was hope because 80% of it was done and there was a new representative helping him on the case. He told me that it would be done by that Wednesday and he would call to confirm.
Wednesday came and went. So did the following Wednesday and then the one after that. Then Kyleigh - my wife - and I decided to stop by as we were already passing through the area.
Only this time our cordial and affable demeanor was replaced by one disgruntled. Just by our unannounced visit I could see the surprise in Derrin Seniors eyes. He could definitely tell that we had been put through the ringer and he offered no apology whatsoever to remedy it. After what seemed like forever, DJ ushered is into his office. There he went down his laundry list of reasons why this had taken so long. By this point in time, his long winded explanations, his used car salesman tactics fell largely on deaf ears. He told us that there would be a $234 charge or something like that but his office would be paying for it as an apology. He got on the phone with the bonding agency from California and squared everything up. We left that day with our long awaited bond!
Only our elation was short-lived. Kyleigh sent the documents to L&I only to find out that they wouldnt honor us being in last years rates. So, she had to return to remedy it at PJI.
Now its finally over as of 9/5.
