1 /5 Jason Holden: Disappointed with Unjustified Rate Increase
I recently had a disheartening experience with American Family Insurance that compelled me to share my dissatisfaction. Ive been a loyal customer for years, but the recent turn of events has left me questioning the fairness of their policies.
The trouble began when an American Family Insurance agent reached out to me, enticing me with a potential discount based on my Costco membership. Eager to save some money, I provided my Costco member number and disclosed that I had recently moved from a condo to a house with a garage. Little did I know that this seemingly harmless update would lead to an unexpected and unjustified increase in my auto insurance premium.
Despite receiving a courtesy email notifying me of an upcoming payment for my policies, I was shocked to learn that my auto insurance premium would spike by $20, even after factoring in the promised Costco membership discount. This translates to an additional $240 per year, all because I moved a mere mile away and my zip code changed from an 8 to a 9.
Whats perplexing is that the reasoning behind this spike was attributed to the new "high-risk" zip code. Ironically, my move was motivated by a desire to escape a high-crime area – a condominium complex where cars were frequently vandalized, broken into, and stolen. In contrast, I relocated to a house with a garage in a safer part of the city.
I expected my renters insurance to increase slightly due to the change in property type, which I was willing to accept. However, the significant jump in my auto insurance premium is incomprehensible, given the improved security and safety of my new residence.
In the end, the promised discount turned into a net increase, leaving me questioning the integrity of American Family Insurances pricing policies. If staying with this company means shelling out an extra $240 annually for the same coverage, Ill be exploring alternative insurance providers that value transparency and fairness. Its disheartening to see customer loyalty overlooked in favor of arbitrary and unjustified rate hikes.
