1 /5 Ariella Moses: Incompetent staff and supervisors. I was denied a social security number for my 2 year old foreign born son ( citizen of the US and Colombia) despite presenting the official documents required (my passport, his passport, and his foreign birth certificate certified by the issuing agency). This is the same document I use to travel with him internationally without his father. Its legit. The person working there wanted my consular report of birth abroad, which I should not have needed because I had our passports and his birth certificate (the preferred documents listed on the instruction page). I had to go to another office in Middletown to do the same exact thing and I got his social security number with no problems using the same documents I had tried to use here.
Not all birth certificates have seals. Some have stickers. Its your job to know this.
Please follow your own instructions and help your staff if they are struggling:

"All documents must be either
originals or copies certified by the
issuing agency. We can’t accept
photocopies or notarized copies of
documents. We may use 1 document
for 2 purposes. For example, we may
use your child’s passport as proof of
both citizenship and identity. Or, we
may use your child’s birth certificate as
proof of age and citizenship. However,
you must provide at least 2 separate
documents."
