3 /5 Linda H.: So, I was looking for a new bank closer to home. Wasnt looking for anything fancy, just an old-fashioned bank with truly free checking that still sends paper statements and doesnt require online banking. I noticed that this branch has a few locations, so I started my online research. Then I called and asked a few questions, and ultimately I went in to open an account. My overview is below. Will update after I get to know them better.
Appearance: cute and clean. What appeals to me is the historical significance. This was the old Post Office. See the pics I posted.
Wait time: Only one personal banker so I waited a half hour, and no one came over to apologize for the wait.
Knowledge/policies: Needs improvement. The teller told me over the phone that there would be a 4.95 per month cost for paper statements for the free checking account. She did correct herself after checking with a co-worker. The personal banker said they couldnt accept the checks I was depositing since they were over 6 months old. The federal and state checks both clearly stated to void after one year. The banker had to go get manager approval and sign off on these government checks. At the end I find out they charge enormous fees for everything.
