1 /5 Mary Cole: My Mother passed away & had home owner’s insurance with Modern American through Alfa. I thought it would make things easier staying with Alfa during an already stressful time of losing my Mother. WRONG!!! From the beginning I have had nothing but issues. First, I was told a few times I would receive a call back & did not. Then, Carla said she was unable to give me a quote because mine & my Mother’s name were the same, even with my DOB & SS #. She said she would contact home office & call me back When my call was not returned, I stopped in. Carla informed me they couldn’t write a new policy because of a hurricane was in the forecast. I was told they probably would be able to change the name on Mother’s policy. During this time, I was concerned if something happened if It would be covered. Suzan nor Modern American couldn’t give me a straight answer. Even though premiums were still being deducted out of my Mother’s bank acct. After they spoke to Modern American, I was told since my home was over 40 years old, Modern American wouldn’t write a new policy. They were more than happy to give me a quote through Alfa. Even though Alfa was $800 a year higher than what we were currently paying, I agreed. I was informed by Carla I would need to put down 2 payments & banking info was given. She called me write back to ask the bank name & to let me know only one month would be needed since it was going to be bank drafted. She has been working with Alfa for 8 yrs, shouldn’t she know that?? I receive the policy via email & it was considerably higher than what we just discussed. She asked me to sign it anyway, I refused. After multiple times receiving the incorrect policy, I call Suzan. She explains to me that I would need to sign the “wrong” policy & they would do a policy change. Why I wasn’t told that to begin with & had to call after receiving multiple emails?
Next day, Carla & her co-worker show up at my house unannounced to take photos. She couldn’t have informed me the previous day they would be by?
A month later, I received a bill from Alfa for 2 payments. I called Suzan to find out why? Apparently, the direct draft wasn’t set up & it was too close to due date for it to be drafted.
A few days later, I receive an email from Carla saying underwriting had a “problem” with the policy. Either it would cost a $100 more or they could lower my coverage amount .
After all that, 4 months later, I log into my Mother’s bank account, and Alfa had failed to cancel my Mother’s policy & they were still deducting insurance premiums out of her account. American Modern did issue a refund to my dead Mother which I’m unable to deposit or cash even though I’m on the bank account. This wouldn’t have happened if Alfa had cancelled the policy correctly.
With all these issues, not ONE time has Suzan apologized.
