2 /5 Sumara Witch: I bought my home in Sumter County in 2002. I immediately retained Farm Bureau Insurance for my homeowners policy. I worked with a couple different agents over the years. I found the company to be professional and the staff to be super. Never in 18 years did I have a claim or a problem. Then, my neighbors tree fell on my house. It was a large massive tree. Not one of my trees, my neighbors tree. I had no choice but to file a claim as I could not afford to have the massive tree removed on my own. The roof had slight damage. All told the claim was not a large one. The roof was properly repaired. The adjuster said he had never stood on such a solid roof. Shortly after this episode, during Covid and unemployment..here comes the Farm Bureau agent to let me know I was going to be cancelled. He came to my property and began giving me a list of to dos, in order to possibly retain my insurance. He said he couldnt guarantee even after spending approx $5000.00, that I would be able to keep my policy. The list included things such as butchering my beautiful trees, tearing down my car port, putting on a new roof and many other things. We live in a 100 year old historical home. I had my tree guys give me a quote, they really didnt want to do the job as it was as they said, "going to butcher some beautiful trees". ..I had them quote the tear down for the carport also. I finally talked to my father who said what I needed was a different agent and a different company. That obviously FB just didnt have the underwriters to deal with a non standard Florida Trac home any longer... The agent also had an attitude that seemed to demean my home. I found an agent from a much larger company, a 4 point inspection and a wind mitigation was done. The state inspector said my roof could last another 30 years with maintenance. Also, the underwriters came out and did a post inspection. The lesson I learned was dont ever file a claim unless you want to be cancelled. Just find a way to do your own repairs. Insurance premiums are to be to be paid for as long as possible and then when you need it, then....your history. I have purposely not mentioned the agents name. I had a very good long relationship with FB. Such a shame it had to end this way.....
