She was able to get me in to a legal clinic that was occurring near me. I had to wait a week or two but I would much rather wait than make a mistake on such an important issue! The family law attorney donating his time to the clinic was very warm and easy to work with. Before hiring any divorce attorney, it’s important to go in with reasonable expectations, which is something I learned along the way. One key takeaway: trust your attorney. Don’t overcommunicate. Your attorney has other clients, and what feels like a crisis (a level 8 or 9 to you) might be more like a 4 from their legal perspective. That’s not a bad thing-it means they know how to keep things in perspective. Being organized and clear with your communication helps everything go more smoothly and keeps your bill from ballooning unnecessarily.
