1 /5 Nicholas Tanuwidjaja: Young or first-time borrowers beware. As a recent college graduate applying for my first auto loan, my experience with this credit union was extremely disappointing.
After submitting my application, I received an email with a counter offer for half the loan amount I requested. When I called for clarification, my loan officers only response was "well, thats what they offered." No real explanation, no attempt to walk me through options.
When I asked about the interest rate, I was told their base rate was 5.24%, despite being told in person that the base rate was 4.54% for a 60-month term. The information was contradictory, and they were unable (or unwilling) to provide me my actual approved rate.
Anyways, I provided additional information to strengthen my application only to receive a brief text saying they were still only willing to lend half the amount. I asked again for the rate and received no response. The very next day, I received a letter saying my loan was denied without any follow up or explanation from my loan officer.
The entire process felt dismissive and lacking basic professionalism. If youre a new or first-time borrower, dont expect guidance, courtesy, or transparency at Americas Credit Union.
