3 /5 Chelsea Munoz-Portales: Not usually one to leave reviews, but thought it would be important to share my experience with others because I picked this accountant based off of the positive reviews online. The very first time, I came to Joel and his staff with mine and my family’s taxes, I was very pleased. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. I really felt at ease and thought that we were in good hands and that this would be a long lasting client relationship. Me being me, I would follow up regularly to see how things were coming with our taxes to which Joel’s staff did explain initially that they did have a heavy workload and that because of this timeline we would need to file an extension, but to rest assured, our taxes would be taken care of in a timely manner. Well, after months of regular check- ins and reassurance, our extension deadline drew near and before I knew it we were roughly a week away from the due date. I stopped by the office to see what was going on (months had passed and we still had no definitive updates on where we stood with our taxes) to be told by Joel’s secretary that none of our taxes were done. I was floored. Joel and his secretary explained that a newer accountant had been given the task of completing our taxes and when the time came, they too discovered he had done none of the work…our taxes sat for almost 9 months untouched. To round out this story, Joel came through and finished all of our taxes before the deadline for free and apologized for everything. We went back to him for a second year, but another issue came up and after various phone calls we still haven’t gotten any follow ups from Joel or his team. Safe to say we won’t be going back to this accountant in the future.
