5 /5 ModelARider: I have lived here for over 15 years. These folks have a very tough job yet still try to treat everyone with dignity and respect. I really appreciate the way Ive been treated whether it be for car tags or property tax. This is a poorer area and homeowner tax seems unusually high. Just remember the folks behind the counter dont choose the tax rates. They are good everyday folks who mostly live here too. Be respectful and see it for what it is.

1 /5 Nancy Moody: My property fair market value last year was $120,256, this year $481,495! When I went to file an appeal yesterday, assuming there was a computer glitch, I was told the State had mandated Haralson County increase their assessments. I am 74 years old, and aside from a county tax of $1,532.16, there is a school tax of $1,238.05, a fire service fee of $501.67, a recreation fee of $99.96, and a sanitation fee of $113.16, for a grand total of $4,475. No one on my road (6 houses) has a bill anywhere near this amount, and yet the very jovial gentleman who waited on me could give me no answers other than "the State said we needed to up our assessments." This is an absurd situation, and would be funny if I werent sick with worry about it.

1 /5 Heather Nieto: We are a military family whos home state of record is Haralson County GA. We have been paying taxes there for years and have purchased 4 out of state vehicles to which we had to pay the ad valorm taxes for out of pocket. We had no problem the first two times... in fact we had amazing service and they allowed us to mail a check and were so understanding. We paid $2200 worth of ad valorm out of pocket the first time and they accepted our money and thanked us for our service... all done via telephone and fax. The following times including this current expirence we have been treated disrepectfully have been refused information when calling on four different occassions we have made 12 hour drives with two small children just to be told by the clerk we could of done this over the phone and oh we take cards now! Twice we had to leave and come back because they refused to do calculations for us via phone and we needed more cash. Today is the last day we will be dealing with this office we went through several loop holes and obtained official letters from my husbands command and changed everything over and out of this county. We had $1400 plus ready to pay for the new car we just purchased. But instead of getting answers we recieved attitude and disrespect again. I am so disappointed in our home state and the way they treated their active duty military out on assignment. We were not asking for a discount we were not trying to get out of paying. We were honestly saying here is money that we will never benifits from because we are not physical residents. .. but because of the law its still.our home of record... and we were told... we dont have the man power to assist you. I am sorry you all felt that way... and when he is done on assignment we will NOT be returning.
