2 /5 Nikita: It is a word of advice for those who is going to get a vehicle (probably works the same way for any other insurance) insurance.
TLDR: make your own research, make a list of coverages that you need before walking into insurance office, do not rush to pay (fortunately this company arranges insurance binder only in a week or so).
Key points:
1. If your car is not really expensive, think about coverages you need, how large should they be, and by how much if ever should they exceed the state minimum.
2. If you are told that some coverages could lower the total cost of your premium, it might not necessarily be the case, but only a sell tactics to make you overpay. Here are such surcharges like health coverage etc. In my opinion there is no scientific proof that any surcharge actually lower cost of package premium.
3. Think about hit and run/fleeing coverage if you need it and whether you are actually going to be paid in case of an accident. In my opinion - there is no way you are going to be paid anything for these accidents.
4. Make sure you understand what each coverage mean, chat with ai chatbot if you do not understand it, so when you walk in, you are not going to be frustrated not understanding what are they talking about. Do your own research!
5. Make a list of coverages you need before walking into office to prevent being manipulated.
From my own experience, which is not large, it was my first own deal with insurance agency, my initial vehicle coverage was arranged by my acquiantance and the former coverage from FL was much closer to the state minimum. I was upcharged by everything the tricky associate chose for me to take my money even if I said initially that I just need insurance to meet basic state coverage to get my car registered in GA.
I am not blaming the associate and front desk associate, it is just a business that consired people as product.
I was able to negotiate the cost of the package from 1200 to 1000 for 6 months, even though I had to overreact to get others to listen to me.
I really feel frustrated when I see when Americans play dumb and be ignorant playing their own game when they deal with immigrants. Just be careful!
