1 /5 richard mckenzie: I hired Attorney A. Dixon to represent me in a family law case in Palm Beach County. My case involved a straightforward financial divorce: no children, no gambling ,just two W-2 employees and two rental properties.
Initially, I was assigned a free pre-paid attorney through my legal insurance plan, which I didn’t select myself. Unfortunately, my spouse used up most of those allotted hours while repeatedly delaying and refusing to produce documents. Even mediation couldn’t be scheduled due to her lack of cooperation.
Believing I needed an assertive paid attorney to get the process back on track, I retained Attorney Dixon. At the time I retained her my spouse had already been ordered to turn over documents . I made it clear to Attorney Dixon that my spouse had stalled discovery ,wouldn’t agree to meditation dates ,and delayed the entire case, but I felt my concerns were largely ignored.
,By the time we reached mediation ( more stalling ) almost 5 months after I retained her (Jan-May ) I still had not received essential disclosures — including full credit card and bank records, FRS retirement documentation, or a complete and accurate financial affidavit. These are basic, standard documents every litigant is entitled to review before settlement discussions.
Despite these deficiencies, I felt intense pressure to accept a deeply unfavorable settlement that, in my opinion, would have effectively absolved my spouse from financial accountability—simply to finalize the divorce. I ultimately declined the agreement.
Shortly thereafter, Attorney Dixon withdrew from the case without scheduling hearings on several pending motions she filed — which would have required her to appear before the presiding judge, Judge K. Miller (15th Judicial Circuit). This left significant issues unresolved and, in my view, placed me at a disadvantage going forward.
In my opinion, Attorney Dixon’s communication was poor and often dismissive. When I voiced legitimate concerns about the opposing party’s noncompliance and requested stronger action, In my opinion Attorney Dixon appeared more concerned with accommodating my spouse’s position, while I felt dismissed and unsupported throughout the process.
I’m fully in favor of resolving disputes through mediation or arbitration when both sides are negotiating in good faith. But when only one side is cooperating, the court must get involved — and unfortunately that didn’t happen .
I would not recommend this attorney to anyone seeking strong in courtroom advocacy, especially in cases before Judge K. Miller in Palm Beach County. If you’re considering hiring counsel, make sure your attorney is willing to stand up in court and pursue hearings when needed. If not, you may find yourself in a situation where you’re expected to give away both arms ,both legs ,shirt , pants ,shoes ,hat , and shave your head just to get a resolution.
