1 /5 Ellen Connor: The only part of my divorce that was more painful than my powerful , wealthy, punishing husband was my experience with Harvey Arnoff and his wife. They, (and the realtors he recommended), pretended to care about my situation. It was all a money making farce. I couldn’t have created an agreement more detrimental to myself if I tried. I was an emotional mess and completely, entirely trusted Harvey. I genuinely cared about and liked him. The divorce went on for years until every penny I could borrow plus my entire retirement was gone. Many of the meetings he called cost much but were casual conversations that accomplished nothing. I went through all my borrowed money and retirement ( I was in my late 50s with no job) Then he lost interest. Browsed on the internet while my ex husband rewrote the stipulation for hours. Harvey agreed to virtually every change to my detriment, even when I spoke up. It appeared to me that he was intimidated by the opposing lawyers. Beyond the loan shark interest at the end 20%+, which I don’t know how that’s even legal. I am still paying the price in my life , the money that I have to pay my husband (whose income is 10x greater than mine)and struggling for allowing myself to be swindled. The final insult was his sending an attorney to my real estate closing to personally pick up the $30,000 balance I owed. Not an apology or fee adjustment, just more cash for Harvey and his phony, nasty wife and the implication that I might not pay. I had never not paid and undoubtedly greatly overpaid. Choosing this firm was insult added to injury. My mistake was marrying, but Mr. Arnoff and wife were my poorest choice for the divorce.
