1 /5 Tommy Guidry: I went at the drive-up at the Capital One branch in Abbeville, Louisiana on Friday afternoon before closing time. When I pressed the call button, the teller responded and told me the bank was closed. According to the time on my iPhone, it was not yet closing time — the discrepancy was no more than two minutes. It was 4:58. I calmly explained that it was still within business hours, but she refused to assist me, insisting that her clock was correct.
I told her that if this was how customers were treated, I would move my money to another bank. Her response was a very cheerful “OK” — not a hint of concern, no effort to retain my business.
What I didn’t tell her, and didn’t think I needed to, is that I’ve been a loyal Capital One customer since the Hibernia days. I didn’t mention the amount of money I have in my accounts. I simply expected basic courtesy and service — especially for arriving before the posted closing time.
It was clear that my business meant nothing to her. Perhaps it doesn’t — but her *dismissive attitude* and refusal to help, over a matter of seconds, was both unprofessional and disrespectful.
On Monday, I will be withdrawing all of my funds from my accounts and moving them to a different institution. I hope that this reaches someone in upper management at capital one who believes that customer service should still exist, even at 4:58 PM
