1 /5 Caroline C: Disappointment in Marjorie’s services is an understatement for how I feel. The past two years of being represented by her have been an absolute nightmare. We were referred to Marjorie through a mutual friend who had a brief experience with her—one in which her true services were not revealed. I wish I could turn back time to erase this experience and instead choose a qualified, morally guided human being.
I hired Marjorie to uphold a previous court ruling from my divorce decree. To make a long story short, what seemed like a straightforward case lasted two years and was heard by four different judges. Additionally, during those two years, she failed to protect my assets related to the case—a simple motion that, I later learned from other attorneys, could have been filed to safeguard them. She never even mentioned this option to me, which I believe was negligent.
Over two years, I had only a handful of calls with Marjorie to discuss my case. Every time a call was scheduled, her office would inform me that another retainer was due, as she had already exhausted the previous one with busy work. Imagine how that felt for two years with absolutely no progress. Marjorie approached every conversation as if I were the criminal in the case. She spoke down to me, questioned my information, and offered no helpful strategies for moving forward. I often had to remind her of important details I had already provided to her. There was no sense of care or loyalty. On numerous occasions she would ask me, “What do you want to do?”—which I found baffling since I hired her as my attorney to advise me! So unprofessional.
Not only was she unsuccessful in my case, but she also blamed me for not asking her to seek clarity from the judge within 30 days of the ruling on issues I had already explained to her and supported with evidence in my exhibits binder. She had everything she needed to help me be successful, but chose not to.
To top it off, in our last phone call—where she again used a rude tone—she told me she didn’t agree with one part of the judge’s ruling that was in my favor (a small benefit, I might add). She literally said she didn’t think I should have received it! I had her repeat herself twice to me because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Marjorie, who I paid $40,000 over 2 years and lost my case, was not happy for this small benefit to me. This was a slap in the face to me. Absolutely pitiful behavior.
I hope my two-year nightmare doesn’t become someone else’s. If you’re looking for an attorney to stand by your side with loyalty and provide professional guidance, Marjorie is definitely NOT the one. Not only did I lose my case, but I also feel betrayed. It’s an awful feeling I hope others never have to experience.
