1 /5 Jerry Zambrano: I would like to share my experience as a caution to other first-time homebuyers. I worked with Carlos Mendez, a loan officer at this company, and unfortunately it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had.
From the beginning, communication was extremely poor. Carlos would only respond when he wanted to, often taking days to reply, even after multiple follow-ups from me and my attorney. Sometimes, he didn’t reply at all.
He initially sent us a pre-approval and pre-qualification letter. Based on these, we proceeded with making an offer on a property. Throughout the process, we signed loan documentation three separate times, each time with updates falsely stating “per buyer’s request,” which was not true. These repeated signings were due to delays on his end in getting information from the investor or bank.
Towards the end of the process, after we had already paid for an appraisal, our loan was denied due to a debt-to-income ratio issue. This is something that should have been calculated and verified during the initial pre-approval and pre-qualification stage—not at the end, near closing. It was especially frustrating because nothing in our financial situation had changed: our income, credit scores, and accounts remained the same.
Additionally, I explicitly instructed Carlos not to disclose details about a lien that we were already in the process of resolving and had paid off on time. Despite this, he still disclosed that information, which I believe was a serious breach of privacy.
Due to Carlos’s lack of communication, I eventually had to escalate the issue to his supervisors and managers, but unfortunately, they were not much help either.
This entire process was stressful and mishandled from start to finish. I would not recommend this company or this loan officer to anyone, especially first-time homebuyers who rely heavily on professional guidance and transparency.
We were able to get our loan from a different company with a way lower interest rate.
