1 /5 Balfour Wheatley: This specific branch has been incredibly challenging for us. My wife has been depositing her checks here every one to two weeks, and each time, we encounter issues. Instead of trying to figure out why there is a problem every time, they unjustly treat her as though shes a criminal. Without warning, they attempted to close the account after she had a disagreement with the manager, despite my name also being on the account and having no involvement in the dispute. I had to return to the bank and clarify why I was being penalized. They held my account hostage and insisted that I obtain my wifes signature on documents confirming that she would no longer bank with them if I wished to retain my account.
John L. Burley, the manger speaking to me, gave me a pamphlet that mentioned the banks ability to terminate any account at any time and for any reason, or no reason, without notice. Utilizing this right, he withdrew money from my account and required me to have someone sign certain documents in order to bank with them again and retrieve my funds on the same day. I perceive that there was a dispute, but rather than addressing the underlying issues, they chose to simply remove her and unprofessionally tried to close my account week. I now maintain my TD account solely for paying my mortgage payment since it’s already tied to the account. We swiftly set up an account at Ameris Bank nearby, where we deposited the $4,500 check. In fact, we will be depositing the $5,000 checks there every week. I continue to keep my TD account for just automated mortgage payment and a “just in case”, despite past unprofessionalism and issues like holding my account hostage. The funds I deposit into the account now are solely for my monthly mortgage payment. I do not use TD for savings or holding anything. When it’s time to pay a bill, I’ll deposit from my other account. I will not be surprised if they will try to close my account because I’m leaving this critical opinion.
