1 /5 Gina Vicencio: I hired Omar Maynez and paid him a $1,700 retainer, trusting him to file when I was ready. A year later, he told me I only had six months to file, something he never mentioned when we first spoke. When I asked for my money back, they refused.
As an attorney, he had a legal duty to inform me of the statute of limitations from the start and to act in my best interest with reasonable diligence. He also had an ethical obligation to communicate clearly, keep me informed about important deadlines, and not take payment for work he did not perform.
I feel misled and taken advantage of, and I would not recommend Omar Maynez to anyone who expects honesty, professionalism, or ethical conduct from their lawyer.
