1 /5 Bling Bling: Ive had United for three or so years. They do not send you the full quote amount during renewal. They only ask you for a down-payment.
So my driving record is clean, and my car is a 1999 car! yet United brokered my rate $800 higher over two years!
In December 2024, I called United in DesPlaines, and the rep reduced my rate from $1500 to $900.
What? How? Wow! Great! (Why not last year when I called?)
This year, unlike last year, this United Rep said, "Let me look for a better rate."
Now Im asking myself, "Was my new, lower rate too good to be true?"
But I thanked the rep. I called her an angel.
I usually pay the whole year in advance, but not for 2025.
Now I just got their bill for the original $1500 rate! Not the new $900 the rep quoted, minus my down payment.
To review, the first year, my rate was great. 2nd year, the rate increased $500. That year, I asked the rep why the rate went up so drastically, with the rep answering, "Illinois rates went up." Well, I accepted her answer like a fool would. This year, 2025, I called United, and the rep lowered my rate $600!
Now seeing the original $1500 on my bill, I wonder if the United rep was luring me into a payment, knowing it was a bait and switch...get me to pay on her verbal quote. I needed to ask for written proof emailed to me.
Now, I will call manager Briggs in DesPlaines to find out if I need to switch to another broker. I see someone else switched to Progressive. There is also a new AAA insurance to ask for a quote.
