5 /5 chooch (Chooch): Every case is unique, obviously & every case has its pros & cons. The key is to find a lawyer that can find & build upon the pros & eliminate the obstacles provided by the cons. I found this in Paul Whitcombe. My divorce case was what many people in my situation experienced. A lengthy & expensive process. There’s nothing about that situation that Paul or any other attorney can change, but in my case it was money well spent. My unfaithful spouse was awarded monthly maintenance & naturally I wasn’t happy about that. Paul then laid out a strategy to ultimately eliminate or significantly reduce my maintenance obligation. At the time, I viewed it as a ‘pie in the sky’ strategy as I was probably still in shock over the whole divorce process. Several weeks later Paul reached out with a case from the Appellate Court that he coined “a game changer”. It was a very similar divorce case to mine & it would ultimately ride into court as case precedent to bolster our own case. Initially I was a bit surprised that he was still working on my case, but would soon learn that this is what Paul does or in his own words when asked how he got my spouse to admit in court that her extramarital relationship was of a conjugal nature he stated: “It’s what I do.” Yes it is! Paul’s exhaustive case research would ultimately lead to not only another, but two more cases from the Appellate Court that would be added as case precedent to strengthen my case. As my case was being decided by the judge, we were offered the opportunity to settle the case with significantly lower monthly maintenance obligations offered by the opposition. Although I knew our case was strong ( & so did the opposition, obviously ) I accepted the offer & am now enjoying significant financial savings. Our case was solid & I certainly could’ve held out for an opinion from the court, but…victory was not guaranteed. Did I want to roll the dice & continue? Had we lost, Paul would’ve continued ( on my direction ) with our case now headed to the Appellate Court. This was an almost guaranteed win with our three precedent cases, but would’ve required a lengthy ( & expensive ) brief to be written & then a two year wait for a decision. Paul could’ve easily convinced me to go that route if he was only in this for the money…but he didn’t. He counseled me on the facts…that we had now been working together ( & me paying, obviously ) for over 4 years. This was an opportunity to finally eliminate my legal expenses to his firm & focus on rebuilding my life post divorce. I took the offer & have no regrets. I’ve learned a lot from Paul about the legal processes involved & would encourage anyone in need of legal counsel to hire this firm. While in the middle of this case I was also in need of an attorney to handle the legalities of some property that I had purchased. Paul’s son Thomas handled all involved expertly….& affordably! A little interesting background about Paul that you should know ( & what sets him above other area attorneys ) is that as a young attorney, Paul clerked for a Federal Judge in Chicago & was directly involved in the notorious killer John Wayne Gacy’s final appeal! Paul was front & center in finally ridding us of one of the nation’s ( if not the world’s ) worst serial killers. This is solid legal experience that you can hire & put to work on your own case!
