1 /5 Angela Finn: Just a few moments ago, I called Ron Hall Insurance Agency to report the death of my mother. Her name was Geralene (Gerri Smith) Carter, and she had been a long time resident of Calhoun. She had had a Medicare Supplement with the agency for several years, and had always gotten good service. She was in the hospital several times over the last 5 months, and they handled a billing issue which was causing her great anxiety. She always spoke extremely highly of a number of individuals within the agency. When I called to inform them of her death, the receptionist interrupted me in mid sentence, and started giving me a fax number to send the death certificate, which I already had. There was no "Sorry for your loss," or anything that resembled kindness or compassion.
She finished spouting the number and was about to hang up on me when, I said "Wait!" She replied with an annoyed: "What?" I asked if I should send anything other that the Death Certificate.
She replied: "No. Once we receive the Death Certificate, we will cancel the Draft on her account."
I assumed she meant her bank account, but before I could say anything further, she hung up on me. I am sure, if my mother were still living that she would be disappointed and hurt. I can only hope that they will cancel the draft without my having to have further contact with the agency. It was an unpleasant experience.
