1 /5 Jayne Smithers: I contacted Daphane Stevens to be the Attorney for my Divorce in July 2024. I paid her a substantial retainer for the process (6k). She said she would “Fast Track” the paperwork.
On subsequent appointments to her office I realized how disorganized and unprofessional she was. She replaced her Paralegal and receptionist after 2 months. New people who weren’t able to answer questions. I arrived to a 1:00 appointment with the Paralegal, who didn’t come in that day and they hadn’t bothered to call me. Daphane was there and acted like she didn’t know me or what my case was about. Told me “I have other cases to take care of”. By October, my X and I decided to go “No Contest” which meant no mediation or Court appearances. Meaning Attorney services were almost nil. I repeatedly had to remind her of the terms we had agreed upon. Finally after 5 months she did the paperwork to finalize the Divorce. She told me that she spent 20 hours in preparation. I doubt that she even spent 10 hours. In March 2025, she sent me a bill for $10.50 due to the Circuit Court for the final filing, dated 12/19/24 that had been sent to her. That she thought I should pay.
This whole process was so stressful! Daphane’s unprofessional attitude and totally disorganized office was disrespectful and created drama that was so unnecessary. I would NOT recommend Daphane Stevens as a Divorce Attorney!
