2 /5 Maria Liubkina: Update 2/20/25: Lowering my rating due to AAAs payment processing issues.
Agent Praise: My agent, Mike Tarlaian, was excellent—responsive and helpful throughout this ordeal. He’s the only reason this is a 2-star review instead of 1.
Issue Summary:
2/10/25: Initiated a new home + auto policy (effective 2/18/25). First payment attempt failed due to a processing issue, but a second attempt succeeded. Received policy documents and was told everything was set.
2/11/25: Payment processed by my bank. Upon reviewing my AAA account, I noticed a payment reversal, sent a screenshot to my agent, and was assured it was just due to the initial processing issue.
2/19/25: My agent informed me that AAA had canceled my policy, citing a payment reversal—despite my bank confirming the payment was successful. I provided proof (bank statement, transaction confirmation, etc.), yet AAA insisted I check with my bank again.
2/20/25: After multiple calls and escalating the issue, I was told my case was still "under investigation." I warned AAA that I’d dispute the charge if they didn’t resolve it by EOD. Shortly after, I was informed my policy was reinstated due to a processing error.
Key Concerns:
1. Why wasn’t the payment reversal flagged earlier, before policy renewal on 2/18?
2. Why did AAA keep blaming my bank despite clear proof the payment was successful?
3. Why did it take 1.5 days to investigate when I provided transaction IDs upfront?
4. Why did I have to threaten a charge dispute before AAA took action?
5. Why was my payment voided on 2/11, yet no refund was issued? Where were my funds for 9 days?
Conclusion: While Mike provided great service, AAA’s payment processing department was incompetent, causing unnecessary stress. With a $4K+ policy, being left uninsured for 1.5 days due to their mishandling was unacceptable. I no longer trust this branch of AAA enough to work with them again.

I switched from Progressive to AAA for homeowners insurance and had a fantastic experience with Mike Tarlaian at the St. Augustine branch. He was knowledgeable, patient, and helped me secure the best policy at a savings of $730/year. Highly recommend Mike and this agency—unfortunately, I can’t say the same for AAA’s payment processing.
